Adult Classes
Adult Classes at The 4th Wall West are open for any actor over the age of 18 regardless of level of experience.
The main focus is scene study, character development, & script analysis:
Scene Study- Its foundation is in the performance of a "scene" by the students. From this performance the instructor gives notes and suggestions to improve the student’s acting. Scene Study is instrumental for actors to get experience being directed. Scene Study will be able to keep improving an actor’s technique, as well as give them the opportunity to be directed and see if they are able to perform to a director’s specification. Scene Study is important because it allows an actor to see if all the techniques and exercises they use in class can be harnessed to create an honest and dynamic performance.
Character Development- The status of a character as it unfolds throughout a narrative. A character begins the narrative with certain viewpoints that change through events in the narrative, in part because they must adapt to changes throughout the storyline. In many narratives, the main characters or protagonists seem unable to resolve their problems because they lack the skills to overcome the forces of antagonism that confront them. This flaw is a driving element of the story's plot. In order to improve their predicaments, not only do they often learn new skills but also must arrive at a higher sense of self-awareness and capability. The new awareness changes who they are or are becoming.
Script Analysis- Script analysis for actors really boils down to how good you are at understanding the human condition. Then using this to analyze a script, breaking it down into smaller pieces and putting it all back together again. When it comes to the preparation and rehearsal of a script, every actor is different in their approach. But through experience, you usually find your own rhythm and what works for you.
These are ongoing structured classes that are month-to-month. We meet once a week for four weeks per month. All classes use material from film and television. student is required to arrive prepared for their class. This means working with your scene partner outside of studio class time, bringing all necessary items for your scene (props, wardrobe, etc.), & being off-book.
Every actor is different. Each scene assignment is geared toward moving the artist forward in their particular journey.
